Dub Hole Connection (2002)

The year was 2002. After getting tired of searching for band members who could play the songs I was writing, I started a new project called Dub Hole Connection (a wordplay on “Double,” since some of my songs were influenced by dub music, hence Dub Hole). It was a mix of reggae, electronic music, disco, and, of course, dub.

I recorded a 5-song EP and submitted it to an annual music contest I had previously entered with Hi-Jack!. I got selected as one of the contestants and performed solo on stage, singing over backing tracks. That was another moment when I felt my music was positively received by an audience beyond just family and friends, making the acceptance feel more authentic.

I played other shows, but the project never took off. It was still a great learning experience.

Fun fact: the 5-song EP was heavily influenced by one of my favorite bands at the time, No Doubt, and their album Rocksteady.
