Crise Social (Social Crisis in English) was my first official band. We wrote and recorded multiple songs using some really basic equipment in our rehearsal studio, released them as a demo tape, and played live frequently over the first 2-3 years.
It was a punk-hardcore band, and all lyrics were written in Portuguese, focused heavily on political and social issues, as most bands in that genre do.
Our first live show was at my high school when I was 12 or 13 years old. A lot of people quickly noticed me, because I was this very short guy (I used to be shorter than the other kids my age), behind a big drum kit, playing like no one’s business. I remember being super nervous before going on stage, of course, but that feeling went away as soon as I sat behind my drum kit. It was a unique experience! We played in front of 300+ people and they went crazy listening to our songs for the first time!
When we got more popular, people would sing all the lyrics at our shows and we would all have a great time. Then, once we all started playing in other bands and moving on with our personal lives, Crise Social became almost like a “cult band” that people missed watching live, so we did 2 revival shows in 2003 and 2006, just for fun. Lots of people showed up, and we all had a blast!
Even though I tried to get the band together for more shows after that and even record an album in a real studio (eventually with new songs) it was always hard to make it happen. I eventually decided to embrace that the 2006 show was our last show ever.
